Roger Murphy (Roger.Murphy@nottingham.ac.uk) remembers...
My earliest memory of BERA was attending my first BERA Conference, which by chance was at the University of Nottingham, where I now work on the Registration Desk was a sign that said something like “educational researchers can register here, illuminative evaluators kindly use the back entrance”. This was in the days when Parlett & Hamilton had challenged the orthodoxy of positivist research approaches in education, and nicely I think captures both the light hearted fun side of BERA conferences and activities, and the way that they can interact with profound and serious academic debates about things that really do matter.
